Melanie S. Broida

A visionary entrepreneur, independent writing and editing professional, and philanthropist, Melanie Broida has progressed through careers from technical writer at Tektronix, Inc. (Portland OR) to technical trainer at Honeywell, Inc. (Minneapolis MN) to Chairman and CEO at the Pookie Bear Foundation, an organization dedicated to helping people who need help being more active and independent.

Avocationally, she has consulted or actively been involved with such organizations as the Association of Waldorf Schools of North America, the Home School Legal Defense Association, Kids for a Better World, the National Cohousing Conference, Sholom (Senior) Home Foundation, Gillette Children's Hospital Foundation, Upper Midwest Merkos Lubavitch, Greater Twin Cities Youth Symphonies, Minnesota Boychoir, Stagecoach Theater Arts schools, the Brandeis University National Women's Committee, and Hennepin County (MN) Library support services.

Contributions of time and effort are usually directed at all things green, growing, sustainable, and edible. Hobbies and interests include uncooking with herbs and whole foods, unschooling, walking and geocaching, science and historical fiction, foreign films, organic wines, classical and ragtime music, herbal tea blends, dark coffees, and dark chocolate.

Broida has studied electrical engineering at Stanford University as well as graduate work in science journalism at the University of Minnesota. She is currently studying management information systems at Augsburg College in Minneapolis as well as Small Business and Entrepreneurship at the St. Catherine University in St. Paul.
