Music Education for All: Expanding Access, Enriching Lives
Music education is a powerful catalyst for personal growth, academic achievement, and a lasting sense of community. Research consistently shows that children and students involved in music programs perform better in several aspects of their lives, yet many communities, including Incline Village and the greater Tahoe Basin, offer limited or no access to quality music education due to a lack of resources.
Classical Tahoe’s Music Education Program was created to change that. Through dedicated instruction, hands-on learning, and community performances, our program gives children and students opportunities to learn, perform, and express themselves through music — all while building confidence, discipline, and a lifelong appreciation for the arts.
Last year alone, Classical Tahoe’s Music Education Program impacted more than 350 local children and student musicians. The vast majority participated at no cost or were awarded scholarships.
Everyone pushed each other to grow, not through competition, but through collaboration and shared love for the music. That kind of energy is rare, and it reminded me why I fell in love with music in the first place.

Our Music Education Programs
- Musikgarten — Introduces children 0 to 5 to movement and music activities that are perfect for child development. Music immerses the child in language, stimulates the brain, and fosters physical coordination.
- Music, Movement and Literature — Also free, this program introduces children 4 to 7 years old to music, movement and storytelling featuring live musicians that accompany a story such as Peter and the Wolf.
- Family Concert & Music Maker’s Faire — This low-cost concert and event are designed to provide families with access to live classical music, instrument instruction, and active participation in music making.
- Brubeck Jazz Summit — One week of intensive jazz training, instruction, and performance for high school-aged musicians taught by professional jazz musicians and faculty. Typically, more than half of the 30 students who attend receive full ride scholarships to help ensure their participation.
- Classical Tahoe and University of Nevada, Reno School of Music “Chamber Connections” — In partnership with the UNR School of Music, Chamber Connections is an immersive residency designed to elevate performance through direct collaboration with Classical Tahoe’s world-class musicians. There is no cost for students to attend.
- Classical Tahoe Academy – Each year, Classical Tahoe welcomes 6-7 young, aspiring musicians from populations underrepresented in classical music as Fellows of the Classical Tahoe Academy.
