Daniela Candillari, conductor
Conductor and composer Daniela Candillari is praised for her dynamic and compelling performances throughout North America and Europe. In 2022-23, Candillari enters her second season as both Principal Conductor at Opera Theatre of Saint Louis and Principal Opera Conductor at Music Academy, and makes her debut at Carnegie Hall and debut with the New York Philharmonic conducting cellist Yo-Yo Ma. Recognized for her “confidence and apparently inexhaustible verve” (New York Times), Candillari made her Metropolitan Opera debut in 2021 and continues to appear at renowned opera halls around the world. Candillari grew up in Serbia and Slovenia, is fluent in several languages, and was the first Slovenian musician to win a Fulbright Scholarship and TED Fellowship.
Gilles Vonsattel, piano
Swiss-born American pianist Gilles Vonsattel is an artist of extraordinary versatility and originality. An “immensely talented” and “quietly powerful pianist” (The New York Times) he is comfortable with seeking out an enormous range of repertoire and displays a sense of adventure that has gained him many admirers. Recipient of an Avery Fisher Career Grant and winner of the Naumburg and Geneva competitions, he has in recent years appeared with the Boston Symphony, Chicago Symphony, Munich Philharmonic, San Francisco Symphony, has performed recitals and chamber music at prestigious venues worldwide, and has made numerous appearances internationally and throughout the United States with the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center. He is Associate Professor of Piano at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst and on the faculty of Bard Conservatory. Vonsattel is a Steinway Artist.
