melanie broida

director

Fiercely independent and unconventional in thought and action, Ms. Broida’s multifaceted career has evolved from technical writer (Tektronix Inc, OR microcomputer division) to technical trainer (Honeywell Inc, MN military avionics division) to homeschool director.

With kids grown, she is proud to make an impact as President of The FS Foundation—dedicated to making every life a story worth telling in facilitating more innovative programs about lab-based education, applied research, and nontraditional career training for all people with disabilities that impede their personal and professional passion for life.

Ms. Broida has served voluntarily in such Twin Cities haunts as Sholom Alliance senior residences, Kumon Math & Reading Centers, Jewish Education Center music classes, Theater in the Round backstage crew, Boards of Directors for Kairos Alive!, the JCC and MN Boychoir, and the capital campaign committee for Walker West Music Academy.

Hobbies include international cooking; anything outdoors like nature photography, boating, birding, and wildflowers; crossword puzzle solutions and creation; science and historical fiction; playing and singing classical, pop, jazz and ragtime music; documentaries and foreign films; and experimenting with fermentation—kombucha to root beer to yogurt to sourdough bread.

Native of St Louis MO, Ms. Broida studied electrical engineering at Stanford University (CA) then science journalism at the University of Minnesota where she still lives with other Frozen Chosen. She and her husband George have two grown sons Matthew and Daniel and look forward this June to watching grandson Conner graduate from high school!
