Classical Tahoe is a four-week outdoor summer music festival presenting orchestra, chamber music, and jazz concerts in a stunning setting amid majestic pines hosted on the campus of the University of Nevada, Reno at Lake Tahoe. The world-class Festival orchestra features the most sought-after classical musicians, conductors, and guest artists in the world. During the Festival, concerts are filmed for the PBS Reno broadcast series and are live-streamed for free — making Classical Tahoe concerts accessible to viewers worldwide — thanks to the FS Foundation, Carol Franc Buck Foundation, Linda and Alvaro Pascotto, Reno Tahoe, Laurie Harden, Silvio Ricardi, Madylon and Dean Meiling, and Ian Weiss.
About the PBS Reno Classical Tahoe Series
The Classical Tahoe series is a living legacy of the Festival’s founding Artistic Director and conductor Joel Revzen who had a vision of sharing the transformative experience of witnessing live classical music with audiences worldwide. The series features selections of performances from the Classical Tahoe Festival and interviews with orchestra musicians, soloists, conductors, and leadership. Musicians explore the life and vision of the composers and share interpretations of the music with us, giving viewers, students, and all music lovers an intimate glimpse into the world of classical music.
Season 1 features the performances and musicians of the 2020 concert series. The loss of founding Artistic Director Joel Revzen to COVID-19 devastated the Classical Tahoe family but it also inspired a determination to make live music happen again in Joel’s honor. It features select chamber music performances and commentary from the team that pulled the festival together under the most trying circumstances.
Season 2 features the performances and musicians of the 2021 concert series. This season represents a return to larger ensembles, as more musicians were able to travel to the Festival to perform and a new stage was built to highlight the orchestra’s sound. Select orchestral performances are featured with interviews from musicians, guest artists, and the Festival team.
Season 3 features the performances and musicians of the 2022 concert series. This season captures beautiful music in an equally beautiful setting of Lake Tahoe. It features a world premiere from composer Jake Heggie, performances by the world-class orchestra and renowned guest artists, and select interviews with the musicians and team that make the Festival happen each summer.
All three seasons of the Classical Tahoe series are available to watch on more than 230 PBS member stations nationwide and accessible on-demand for free at any time at pbsreno.org and through the PBS Video App.
